ABOUT THE POWER SUMMIT
The Power Summit is an all day, free, event, where the community learns about their local, county, state and federal governments as well as their school boards. Through a series of case studies, each participant learns not only how the government works but how to get things done.
HISTORY OF THE POWER SUMMIT
The right to vote is one of the most fundamental aspects of democracy, yet many citizens who are eligible to vote, don’t, because they are uninformed or misinformed about the significance of their participation in elections. To address this challenge, Courteney Wilds (a private citizen), along with Monmouth County based nonprofits and citizens (Monmouth County Diversity Alliance, National Council of Negro Women North Shore Area, Ocean Chapter of the National Drifters, League of Women Voters, representatives from the BOE in Asbury and BOE in Long Branch), decided to create a non-partisan event where the Monmouth County community can learn about voting and why voting matters. The first Summit was held in September 2025 at Brookdale Community College.
Planning Non-Profits
